Majiaochong Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was named by Ge Zhizhou et al in 1979. The type section is near Majiaocun Village by the roadside from Leijiatun to Longtang, north of the Shiqian County seat in northeastern Guizhou Province.
Synonym: (马脚冲组)
Lithology and Thickness
The formation, 48 m thick, consists of yellow green, gray green shale.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The formation rests conformably on the underlying Leijiatun Fm
Upper contact
The formation rests conformably below the overlying Rongxi Fm
Regional extent
The Majiaochong Fm is exposed in the border area between Guizhou, Hubei and Hunan provinces and is composed of yellow green shale intercalated with silty shale, often with ripple mark and worm casting. Stretching eastwards from Guizhou Province, the formation increases in thickness accounting over 100 m; in northwestern Hunan Province and southwestern Hubei Province both silty component and thickness increase; in the sedimentary depression area (e.g., at Longcihe, Shimen County in northern Hunan Province) the thickness of the formation reaches 300 m.

Fossils
The rare fossils yielded include brachiopods Nalivkinia, Nucleospira; trilobites Encrinuroides, Latiproetus; graptolites Pristiograptus xiushanensis, Hunanodendrum typicum; and chitinozoa Conochitina cf. iklaensis, C. leijiatunensis and Ancyrochitina shiqianensis.
